I love pieces that take an outfit from “nice” to “wow!” These pieces, for me, include a favorite necklace, a darling pair of shoes, and a few others worn between the two. I rarely wear them together, but individually they complete an outfit in their own way. They’re all pieces I can wear easily: a pendant necklace for date night, great shoes to a luncheon, or the dress up/dress down jacket for running errands. The wow factor adds just enough sass and completes an outfit.
The wow pieces also serve as great mental boosts. I’ll be the first to admit I’ve had plenty of mornings not feeling my best. Maybe it was an argument with the Mister or dealing with a tyke who clearly should’ve slept longer. The pressure of a project’s rapidly approaching deadline or the day’s to-do list feels overwhelming. Some days it’s something much more personal, like nothing seems to fit right. I know it’s important to not look toward material items to get over a mental hump or use clothing like a piece of armor, but sometimes it’s exactly what I need to clear my head, shift my outlook on the day, and possibly feel a little protected from the day’s pressures.
I feel like the below outfit’s starring piece, the red leather jacket, does exactly that: it offers a boost and can feel like a fabulous she-armor to get anyone through the toughest day. It’s easy to wear with jeans for running errands or with a pencil skirt for a meeting. It’s also ageless. It doesn’t matter if you’re 25 or 65, this piece works and works fabulously.
Notes from Wendy: “Audrey Hepburn once said, ‘There is a shade of red for every woman’. Keeping in this line of thought, for Dana’s look we featured a great Fall basic: the leather jacket. The fact that it’s in red creates a sassy layering piece to any wardrobe. I consider a beautifully colored red leather jacket a 3-season piece, meaning it can be worn in Fall, Winter and Spring. For a Fall and Winter look, pair it with a black tee, skinny jean and a great brown or black leather boot. In the Spring, wear a cropped/ankle length light-weight pant in navy or khaki, a pointed ballet flat and a statement earring. Viola! The red leather jacket brings to life any outfit!”
